Before you visit Sapa, you will need to know what to bring with you, depending on which month of the year you are visiting Sapa and sapa activities

From the end of May until September is summer time. During this time of the year, you see the most beautiful rice terraces in Sapa, but it’s the rainy season from July until August. So you should bring a raincoat and summer clothes for your Sapa activities.

From October until March, it’s winter, and the weather can be very cold, down to 0 degrees. Remember to bring a warm jacket during this time of year.

What Sapa activities should you do in Sapa? We would like to say that if you are from Asia or the West, your interests may vary. Here are some Sapa activities based on different traveler preferences:

SAPA ACTIVITIES FOR ASIAN VISITORS:

  1. Cat Cat Village Just 2 km from Sapa, this village is home to the Hmong ethnic group. Along the way to Cat Cat village is a touristy trail, with a waterfall, dance show, and local shops.
  2. Fansipan Cable Car To reach the Fansipan cable car, there is a small funicular train from Sapa center. Then you take the cable car to the peak of Fansipan. Prices: 200,000 VND (train), 800,000 VND (cable car weekday), 850,000 VND (weekend). An additional train is available at the top for those who don’t want to walk the 300 steps to the summit. Bring a jacket and raincoat—the summit is cold due to the altitude.
  3. Silver Waterfall, Longly Tree Viewpoint & Glass Bridge About 16 km from Sapa town, these locations can be reached by taxi or motorbike. Great spots for sunset photography.
  4. Ban Mong Alpine Coaster Located in Sapa, this coaster offers an exciting ride through the Hoang Lien Son mountains. It is the only alpine coaster in Vietnam open at night. With a magnetic brake system, riders can enjoy the views while staying safe.
  5. Moana Sapa This is a luxury resort experience combined with nature. Moana Sapa provides a perfect blend of relaxation and stunning views, ideal for guests wanting comfort and scenic beauty.

SAPA ACTIVITIES FOR WESTERN VISITORS:

THESE ARE THE SAPA 1-DAY TOUR OPTIONS

Option 1: Rice-Filled and Village Tours
Total: 5-6 hours, 12-13 km
Trek through Y Linh Ho village (lunch in Lao Chai), continue to Ta Van village, then take a car back to Sapa. You will see beautiful rice terraces and visit Hmong and Zay ethnic minority villages. Learn how traditional Hmong clothing is made.

Option 2: Mountain and Rice Field Villages Trek
Total: 7-9 hours, 15-16 km
Trek from Sapa to Sa Seng, climb to Dragon Mountain (1,800m), then pass through Hang Da, Lao Chai, and Ta Van. Great for viewing both mountainous landscapes and rice paddies. This trek is slippery in rainy weather and offers the best viewpoints if it’s sunny.


SAPA DAY TREKKING & 1 NIGHT HOMESTAY sapa activities

Day 1 Activities:

  • Lunch at a local house (Hmong cuisine)
  • Learn about local herb plants and enjoy a herb foot bath

Option 1: Scenic Trek through Rice Fields

  • Day 1: Sapa > Y Linh Ho > Lao Chai (lunch) > Ta Van (overnight)
  • Day 2: Trek through bamboo forest to Giang Ta Chai village. 7-9 km (3-4 hours). Return to Sapa after lunch.

  • Day 1: Sapa > San Ho > Y Linh Ho (lunch) > San 1 (homestay). 14 km, 6-7 hours.
  • Day 2: San 1 > Seo My Ty viewpoint > Mong village > Return to Sapa. 10-11 km, 4-5 hours. Great for avoiding tourist crowds.

Option 4: Cave Tour & Herbal Bath (Extra $10)

  • Day 1: Sapa > Ma Tra > Ta Phin (cave tour), overnight with Red Dao family. Optional herbal bath.
  • Day 2: Trek to Trung Chai village, return to Sapa after lunch.
